To Spring…or not to Spring

Can you hear the bells of Spring in the distance? The day of amazement and joy and joyness? Why yes, dear friends – it certainly is!

By now you are aware of my great love for Spring Day. The green and blues, the carpet of fluffy grass. The rain after a dry winter. The blossoms and colours – even the sneezes. Not immediately – please take note – but the promise that comes with it.

I’ve had a ’stop raining on my parade’ type of Spring Day since 2023. Partially because the moment I moved to the north, summer lasted longer, so we lost the appreciation of spring a little bit. But also, the moment in April 2023 when I asked myself: “To beer or not to beer?’ and I didn’t hear a distinct ‘No’ – I indeed beered. And low and behold – was a decision that did not bode too well with every September after that. Now, it’s a story for another day, but sometimes when we pray and we don’t hear a ‘no’, it’s not because we didn’t get an answer. Sometimes we already know the answer, because it’s well documented.

Regardless, I am quite annoyed with the projection of Septembers for the last few years.

And just to explain again, why Spring Day is my most favourite day of the year – it’s all about becoming alive after a slumber. It’s a doorway into absolute hope. New beginnings. It’s the miracle of living, after something withered.

This year, I find myself in summer already. As I’m typing this, my air-conditioner is on and I’m wearing a short-sleeved blouse. But I’m also aware that this will be the last time that I experience summer in August. Because this chapter has come to an end. Even though the communication is ongoing, the writing is on the wall. And this door is creaking and has some resistance in closing, and what’s beyond it is dark and very scary – it’s also a door that has overstayed its welcome.

We want things to be easy in life. And when things are difficult for long enough, we come jaded and bitter. We learn how to hide it, learn how to say the right things at the right times. And our whole lives become this showcase we put forward. Except for when things don’t go the way we hoped and prayed for. And I’m not talking about silly little things I’m talking about the real things in life. The things that scare us, that make us doubt. When the test results bring bad news, not good news. Or that phone call that changes everything. When a door has closed, and nothing else is open.

It’s those times, when it’s easy to want to stay in winter. Just another month in another year. But positivity has never been about not acknowledging when something sucks. Or when you are scared. Being positive, is knowing that as long as your focus is on the right things – this will have a good outcome. Maybe not immediately, but it will work out for good. But we also need to understand that because our lives are intertwined – ‘good’ doesn’t mean catering for the selfish or the frivolous. Laziness will probably never get an award. Sometimes, it seems that bad behaviour is temporarily awarded. But it’s an award you don’t want.

I strongly believe that when we make the right choices every day – it will pay off. Sometimes it feels like you’re not only NOT getting a medal, but more of a continuous of recklessness with your heart and nervous system. But I truly believe that when you make the right choice daily, even when it hurts – you will be joyous at some point.

And that is what Spring should be – always. Being able to have hope – not in people, but in Promises of Peace. Not in yourself and your pride, or what you think you deserve or don’t deserve. Not in getting what you want, but hopefully in helping someone else in what they need.

The reality is that we can only truly appreciate spring and summer when we experience winter. We don’t have to like the winters. We simply have to endure it.

So my question today – with everything that Spring represents, even if you are still very much in Winter.

To Spring or not to Spring?

And my answer is yes. Yes, yes and yes! For the closed door and the scary future. Yes, to those good days after some bad ones. To picking yourself up from the floor (You’re never truly alone). Yes, to the positive vibes and the move away from being jaded and bitter. To putting one foot in front of the other. And to indulge in the small moments of joy. Just Spring.

Always choose to Spring. Because life turns. There will be challenges, but there will always be revival afterwards.

Happy Spring Day friends!
